Fuse Box Keeps Tripping? We Find the Fault - Fixed Price

Something in your house is tripping the electrics and nobody can tell you what. We find it for a fixed £149 - a written answer and a fixed repair price, the same day. If we do the repair, the £149 comes off the bill. No hourly meter running, no VAT to add.

Safe right now - do these 3 things first

  1. Do not hold the switch on. A trip is the safety system working. Forcing it defeats the one thing protecting you
  2. Unplug, then reset once. Unplug everything on the circuit that drops. Reset the switch. If it holds, plug things back in one at a time - the one that trips it is your suspect. Stop there and call us
  3. Burning smell or scorch marks? Stop. Turn the whole board off at the big main switch and call us now on 07836 535100. That one is not a wait-and-see

If the switch will not reset at all, leave that circuit off. The rest of the house can stay on. You are safe - just stuck. That is the visit we exist for.

What the tripping is telling you

Your fuse box has two kinds of switch, and which one drops narrows the hunt:

  • One small switch drops - a circuit breaker. One circuit is overloaded or has a damaged cable or accessory. Usual suspects: a cooked connection behind a socket, a nail or screw through a cable, or simply too much plugged into one ring
  • A wider switch drops and takes half the house - the safety switch (RCD). Electricity is leaking somewhere it should not be. Usual suspects: a failing appliance (fridges, ovens, washing machines and heaters top the list), water in an outside socket or light, or a cable that has been damp for years
  • It only trips in the rain, or at night, or randomly - that is an intermittent fault. It is the type most firms will not touch, and the type we enjoy. More on that below

You do not need to work any of this out yourself. Tell us what drops and when - that is all we need to start.

The fault-finding visit - what £149 buys

One fixed price, agreed before we arrive. Here is exactly what you get for it:

  • The hunt. We test circuit by circuit with proper instruments until the cause is found - not guessed at
  • Made safe. Wherever possible the danger is removed the same visit, and that is inside the fixed price
  • A written answer. What the fault is, where it is, and the evidence - in plain English, in writing. It is yours to keep, whoever does the repair
  • A fixed repair price. Quoted in writing before any repair starts. If we do the work, your £149 comes off that bill - so finding the fault ends up costing you nothing

The price you see is the price you pay. No call-out fee stacked on an hourly rate, no VAT to add, and the fee never grows mid-visit. That is our promise on every job.

The fault that only happens sometimes

Intermittent faults are the worst to live with and the hardest to sell by the hour - which is why so many firms swerve them. Being straight with you:

  • Most are found on the first visit. A methodical hunt finds the damp junction box or the dying appliance that "random" tripping usually turns out to be
  • Some genuinely need a second look. If yours needs monitoring equipment left in place, or a return visit to catch it in the act, we agree that with you in writing before anything else happens
  • The fee still never grows mid-visit. You will never get a surprise number at the door. That rule does not bend

Why nobody else calls you back

You have probably already discovered the strange truth about tripping problems: electricians go quiet on them. It is not personal - it is maths:

  • An unknown fault is an open-ended job. On an hourly rate, that is a risk for the electrician and a blank cheque for you. Neither side likes it, so the job never gets booked
  • Small diagnostic jobs lose to big installs. A day of chasing a fault pays less than a day fitting a fuse board, so fault-finding sinks to the bottom of every to-do list
  • Meanwhile you are resetting a switch every night - and the cause, whatever it is, is not getting better on its own

We built this service to be the opposite: a fixed price so the risk sits with us, and a genuine liking for the detective work. Pete has spent years being the electrician who fixes the problems other electricians could not. See what customers say on our reviews page.

Who we help

  • Homeowners - the tripping that started last month, the socket that stopped working, the lights that flicker when the kettle is on. Bring us the mystery
  • Landlords and letting agents - a tenant reporting tripping is a phone call you cannot ignore. We deal with the tenant and access directly, and the written finding lands in your inbox. We take the intermittent-fault jobs your usual contractor dodges
  • Failed EICR with an FI code - FI means the tester found something they could not prove safe. Our visit is exactly that investigation, and our remedial work page covers the rest of a failed report
  • Buyers and sellers - a known fault, found and priced in writing, beats a vague worry in a survey every time

Quick answers

How much does electrical fault finding cost?

£149, fixed. That covers the visit, the diagnosis, a written answer and a fixed price for the repair. If we do the repair, the £149 comes off the bill. There is no hourly meter and no VAT to add.

My electrics keep tripping - is it dangerous?

A trip is the safety system doing its job, so do not just hold the switch on. Leave the tripping circuit off if it will not reset. If you smell burning or see scorch marks, turn the whole board off at the main switch and call us straight away.

Can you find a fault that only happens sometimes?

Yes - intermittent faults are the ones we like. Most are found on the first visit. If yours genuinely needs monitoring equipment or a return visit, we agree that with you in writing first. The £149 fee never grows mid-visit.

Why do other electricians turn down fault-finding jobs?

Because on an hourly rate an unknown fault is a risk - for them and for you. Nobody wants an open-ended bill, so many firms just do not pick up the phone for tripping problems. Our fixed price moves that risk onto us.

Will you tell me I need a rewire?

Almost certainly not. Most tripping problems end in a small repair - a damaged cable, a faulty accessory, water where it should not be, or one failing appliance. If the fault genuinely points at a bigger problem, we show you the evidence in writing and the decision stays yours.

How fast can you come out?

We cover Bournemouth, Poole and the BH postcodes, 7 days a week, 7am to 7pm. Saturday visits are normal prices, not emergency rates. Most fault-finding visits are booked within a few days - sooner if you are without power.

Still resetting that switch every night? We book Saturday appointments at normal prices - no weekend premium. And you can call us any day of the week, 7am to 7pm.
